Caught up

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

One day recently I woke up after having a rough night and went to grab lunch. As I pulled in the drive-thru, I saw a spider web. Then I began to think about how sometimes you just feel like you’re caught up in a cycle and you can’t get out of it. You keep going back to the same behaviors and thoughts, even if you know it’s not what God wants for you.

Spider webs are used to catch prey for spiders, just like the enemy wants to set up a cycle for you to get caught up in. You’re going about your life and then all of a sudden you’re stuck up in this web just waiting to be eaten alive. When you get stuck up in the cycle the enemy has created for you, the enemy has you right where he wants you and he can devour you. The Bible says “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

But there is hope! Even though insects get caught up in webs, they can escape. We can prevent these cycles by being alert, but if you find yourself in one, you have to fight your way out! The Bible says “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use Gods mighty weapons, not worldly weapons to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false argument.” ( 2 Corinthians 10:3-4) The weapons we have to fight come from God. You have to suit up with the armor of God. The Bible tells us “Put on all of Gods Armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” ( Ephesians 6:11) The bible goes on to tell us what armor he has equipped us with to fight: it says, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.“ Ephesians 6:13-18)

So when you find yourself caught up, it’s time to fight and suit up with the armor God has given you! You have to be ready to fight at all times so that you don‘t find yourself caught up by the enemy. Sometimes you put your armor down, and that’s when the enemy starts to create his trap. So remember to always be ready to fight! Never let your guard down, because there is a web waiting to get you stuck. Despite the enemy learning from your mistakes and creating a cycle for you to get caught up in, God is more strategic. He has a plan and uses everything to teach you and mold you into the person he wants you to be. He sees those webs before you do, and he will allow you to get caught up so that you learn how to be alert and how to avoid getting stuck in another one.
